Looking for an interactive travel experience in Central Oregon? Taking a class is a great way to learn something new, meet locals, and engage with the community. Bend is home to an eclectic mix of artists and makers who often host events and offer classes on their craft. 


The Workhouse 

visit bend take an art class at The WorkhouseLocated in Bend’s historic Iron Works building, this space doubles as a shop and studio for local working artists studios. They open their doors for painting, jewelry making, figure drawing and writing classes. When you visit save time to pop into the Sparrow Bakery for their famous ocean roll.

Learn to paint with coffee and beer alongside studio artist Karen Eland. That’s right, you’ll be painting using only beer or coffee at her monthly Sip’n’Dip class

To see some of Karen’s work just look in the Lara House and you’ll find a few paintings.

Another Studio artist, Marianne Prodehl from Junk to Jems, offers beginner level as well as more advanced jewelry making classes. Learn how to use and recycle various metals, wire, and other found objects in her Recycle in Style Beginning Earrings class. Learn riveting and other cold connections for using different metals without soldering in the Recycle in Style Cuff Riveting Class. Learn soldering and heat connections in a Private Beginning and Advanced Soldering Classes.

Both Eland and Prodehl offer private classes, contact the artist directly to schedule.

To brush up on your figure drawing skills drop in on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:00pm for their Drawing Salon. A model is provided, simply bring your sketchpad and drawing supplies. $10 drop in fee.

If you prefer to hone your writing skills attend their writing workshop open the first Saturday of every month from 6:00 to 8:00pm for $25.

Layor Art + Supply 

In the heart of downtown Bend, and a quick stroll from The Lara House, Layor Art + Supply is an art supply shop and gallery owned and operated by a local artist. They offer a wide range of classes including drawing, pastels, oil painting, and watercolor. Their classes fill up fast, you’ll want to sign up for classes before your visit.

Cooking class Bend OregonThe Kindred Creative Kitchen

Whether you’re learning the basics or advanced techniques, Kindred Creative Kitchen’s cooking classes offer the chance to learn to cook or bake like a pro. Taught by Chef Morris, who is classically trained and has taught at our local culinary school and  worked as a consultant for many of Bend’s top restaurants. 

Their workshops cover a wide variety of seasonal topics that change each week. Workshops are hands-on and technique-based. These are a great way to spend an evening out with friends; great for date night; as well as great for individuals. Select workshops offer a beer and wine pairing.

A fun fact, Reggie Strom, took classes at Kindred Creative Kitchen to prepare for his appearance on Kids Baking Championship on the Food Network.

You can learn to cook fresh from the farm at the Rainshadow Organics Farm Store with Chef Travis Taylor. Private cooking classes can focus on any topic of your choice from pickling and canning to fermenting, pie baking, three-course dinner preparation, harvest to table meals and more. You choose the topic and the date and they’ll organize an informational and interactive cooking class for your group! They are a farm to table kitchen run off of what the farm can provide, so different seasons will showcase different forms of food preparation.
